Intersquad Madness

It has been an interesting week. Coming in Monday, we all knew our coach would be a little crazy.

Wednesday was our first intersquad.

An intersquad is like an at-home meet. We have judges come in and judge us on our routines. The first one of the season is always nerve-wracking, especially when you don't have a routine. You have to swallow your pride and show a routine that is a levels below you. Keep in mind that these are the same judges that are judging at national competitions.

Anyway, our coach always stresses out before an intersquad because we really aren't that prepared. WE FAIL! Plus, an intersquad is a lot of work to prepare for. We have to each wear the same leo, deal with a tangle of nerves, and wake up at 5:00 in the morning make our hair all fancy. Plus, to top it all off, approximately 78 students of Weilenmann were running around the gym like their heads were chopped while we were trying to train! It was a little more than embarrassing when we crashed or fell.

Thankfully, our coach was nice enough to have the intersquad be in Park City and not the South Jordan gym. We had Heather, our usual intersquad judge come, and we competed Bars, Beam and Floor in that order.

I was able to get through bars, and landed my dismount, but I don't think I hit a single handstand. Whoops! Beam was great. Well, it was going to be. I stuck my series, and did my Corbit (back handspring swing-through) which I done without a mat only the day before, and then I fell on my back tuck!
How I felt when I fell. You could say I was frustrated.

Floor was interesting. In the middle of my routine while I was in the middle of a tumbling pass, a coach walked across the floor, causing everyone of freak out, including the judge, which caused her to completely miss my entire pass, resulting in a terrible score. Thankfully, he moved out of the way in time to avoid a foot to the head.

All in all, the intersquad wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected. I didn't embarrass myself that much, and I learned some things about my own gymnastics. Still, I can't say I am excited for the next.
