The Pros to Having an Injury

No, this post does not mean that having an injury is all fun and games, and it is definitely not trying to convince you to go and hurt yourself. Please. Just don't. It is simply a post explaining the upside to an injury, so that I can stay positive, and it will be a nice break for my friends because I'm sure they are completely sick and tired of me complaining all the time. :)

1. You have an excuse to be lazy. Whenever I want a glass of water, I can totally get away with just asking someone else. I mean, because it takes me ten minutes to get to the water fountain or fridge, I have a reason not to move.

2. You get sore after doing twenty pushups. I don't know about you, but I feel a sense of accomplishment when I get sore, because that means that I work hard. Now, when I do practically nothing, I get sore. Boo yah! This sense of accomplishment happens with practically every task. :)

3. Time. You have time. I now have an 4 1/2 hour hole in my life, which sounds bad when I put it like that. But it's nice. In that time, I have started the process of volunteering at the Hospital, gotten caught up on AP Reading, and watched about twenty episodes of my favorite TV show. Go me! Look how social I am!

4. Perspective. Yes, there's the whole "I will be so much more grateful when I can walk and do gymnastics because right now I can't," and that is definitely true, but there's also a lot more for me. I've been going to the gym a lot lately to condition and hang out with my friends and coaches. Watching workout when I'm not the one doing gymnastics has completely changed the way I will work and act when I go back. I have seen things more from my coach's point-of-view, and that is something I am very glad to have been able to do.

5. You get to spend time at a hospital. This could be a pro or con depending on who you ask. I LOVE HOSPITALS!! They're so clean, and smell good, and everyone knows what they're talking about! Because I go to Physical Therapy twice a week, I go there. Oh, and lets not forget about the food.

6. Everybody notices you. Hey! It's true! When you come sluggin' down the hall at two miles an hour with your crutches clicking loudly, you do get noticed, whether you like it or not.

7. The rest of your overuse injuries start to heal. That's really nice, obviously. My wrists and back haven't hurt for a pretty long time, and my ankles seem fine!

8. You can catch up on homework and school. I know that this kind of goes back to having more time but it is nice to just have to focus on school. I think I would be dying if I had more stuff going on than I do now.
