Okay, so we had a late start today which was amazing!! Then we walked over to the School of Optometry and used some of their equipment to stare deep into people eyes.  MWHAHAHAHA. No, I'm kidding. But we did look at people's irises, cornea, and the back of their retna, so that was cool. Then we had a pretty short lecture on how your brain processes visual information.

Suturing was great! We all got pieces of raw chicken to practice on, and then a bunch of surgery tools and numbing medication and all that jazz. Dr. Parsioon, the neurosurgeon, showed us how to make the knots and do both interrupted stiches and running stitches. My first try was on the right side and was pretty bad, but then the left side improved a ton! Unfortunately, my chicken was accidentally thrown away by someone else before I could take a picture. :(

There were two long tables like this for suturing.
Then we worked on our presentations for a little, and got a little bit of filming done for the PSA.

"A Day in the Operating Room" was where the same doctor, Dr. Parsioon, explained and showed all of the procedures for getting ready for surgery. Then, he showed us the technique for drilling burr holes with the surgical drill into a skull. We used pigs for this (not alive, people, not alive). He also did a quick craniotomy on one so that we could see and touch the brain. I would put a bunch of pictures on, cut I'm not sure if everybody is up to that level of...... realness. :)

Decked out in my surgery gear!
I cut the pig out of the picture so that I don't freak anyone out too much.

Karaoke was fine, but I definitely didn't sing. Haha, yeah.....

Ooh, and, hope you guys like my new design for the blog.
